What a Washed Oversized Tee Should Feel Like (and Why 240 GSM Organic Cotton Wears In, Not Out)

BY MONUMENTS

Some tees look new for a week and tired for the rest of their life. A washed tee works the other way round: it arrives already softened and settled, and from there it only gets better. The point is to feel broken in on the first day without looking worn out by the tenth wash.

Washed, not faded

The MONUMENTS Grand Prix Oversized Tee is garment-washed after it is sewn, which is what gives it the vintage black: a black with depth, not a flat dye. Washing the finished piece also relaxes the cotton and settles the seams, so the tee keeps its size and shape after it reaches you. Because every piece goes through the wash on its own, the tone varies slightly from one tee to the next. That is the finish doing its job.

Why 240 GSM organic cotton

Fabric weight is measured in grams per square meter. Most everyday tees sit around 150 to 180 GSM, thin enough to cling and twist at the seams. At 240 GSM the cotton has enough body to hang straight from a dropped shoulder and to keep the neckline from stretching out, while staying light enough for warm days. The cotton is organic, and the tee is made in Portugal, with the back label finished by hand.

The cut

The oversize is built into the pattern: a wide body and a shoulder seam that drops down the upper arm, with the length kept in proportion so it does not turn into a dress. The front artwork is applied digitally with precision, so the detail stays sharp against the washed black.

How to size it

  • Take your usual size. The volume is already in the cut. Sizing up adds length, not shape.
  • Check the shoulder seam. It should sit clearly down the arm, past the shoulder bone.
  • Check the hem. It should fall around the hip and cover the waistband.

How to wear it

Give a wide top a long, straight line below. Structured wide-leg sweatpants carry the same proportion; straight denim works too. Keep it untucked and let the shoulder do the work.

Care

Wash cold, inside out, and hang to dry. Heat is what shrinks cotton and dulls artwork. Treated this way, the tee keeps softening while holding its shape.

Imperfections are what make us unique.
